I grew up in New York, moved to New Orleans, fell in love with Jesus, fell in love with Cherie, got married in 1986, and now have two children. Other stuff happened too, but you get the idea.
We moved to Gunnison in 1997, and I have been serving as pastor of Bethany since 2007. I am bi-vocational (some similarity to bi-polar), which means that like many in Gunnison, I have two jobs. My fulltime job is VP for Institutional Advancement for Western and I work halftime at Bethany. My main responsibilities are setting the vision, study, prayer and preaching (and I make a mean pot of coffee). I rely on the staff, elders, trustees and volunteers to keep the church moving full speed ahead.
I am nowhere near perfect. I need to be a better husband, father, friend, pastor, man (and Tivo fast-forwarder). So, I fit in well at Bethany, because no one here is perfect. But we worship a perfect God, Jesus, and He’s making us into new people, and that’s Good News!
Please visit us. I can’t tell you how many people come and say, “I never thought church could be like this.” It’s free. We’re not creepy. We love Jesus, teach the Bible, and care as much about people who don’t come to church as those who do. We’re not afraid to talk about anything, we laugh at ourselves a lot, and we’ll probably feed you something (that’s how my Italian Momma shows affection). And people who hang out at Bethany tend to get blessed by Jesus in radical ways. Myself included. And that could include you, too.
