I'm a Gunnison native and am thankful to call this small town home. I've been married to my beautiful wife, Kathy, for nine years (and counting), and we have four amazing children, Justus (6), Eden (4), Merci (2) and Tytus (0), who keep our life a whirlwind and our home full of entertainment and love – “beautiful chaos” we call it.
I have the privilege of exerting both sides of my brain during the week, one as an engineer at our family-owned business, and the other as worship director at Bethany. I didn't grow up with a musical background, so I have a somewhat non-typical worship leader's resume. When I was twenty-five I felt the Lord prodding me to learn guitar and to start singing – a few short months later our “college and career” group was leading worship once a month at our church. My only stipulation (to God and the rest of the group) was that I didn't want to be the leader, but just play. Needless to say, God had other plans and I somehow ended up leading that first Sunday and I've been involved in worship ministry ever since. I'll be the first to say that my strength is in worshiping Him more than in raw musical talent, experience or ability, but I still love the musical end and count it a huge blessing to be able to make music and worship Him. Kathy and I have been singing and worshiping together since we met, and she is a huge part of my ministry.
I believe that God has called us all to be daily worshipers of Him, in whatever forms that means for each of us. One of my greatest joys is watching my children unashamedly worship and dance before their Maker, and this always reminds me of how I want to strive to live and lead worship. I'm really excited about what God is doing at Bethany, and that He's chosen me to be a part of it. To Him be the glory!
